Republic Day 2022 Highlights | Stunning fly-past of 75 IAF aircraft concludes celebrations at Rajpath (2024)

Republic Day 2022: India celebrates its 73rd Republic Day today. The Republic Day parade on Rajpath in Delhi this year featured 16 marching contingents, 17 military bands, and 25 tableaux of various states, Union Territories, departments, and the armed forces. India’s military might and cultural diversity were showcased. This year's Republic Day event is part of the Centre’s Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate 75 years of Independence. The country witnessed the largest flypast, comprising 75 aircraft and helicopters. Owing to Covid concerns, the Delhi Police barred children below 15 and people who are not vaccinated with both doses from attending the Republic Day parade this year.

Dancers from the Kunbi community, the original inhabitants of Goa, and glimpses from the liberation struggle were the highlight of the tableau of the coastal state that rolled down Rajpath during the Republic Day parade on Wednesday. The front portion of the tableau showed the majestic Fort Aguada overlooking the Arabian Sea, and is considered as the defining symbol of Goan heritage. The fort was built by the Portuguese in 1612 to defend against possible Dutch invasions. During the Goan liberation struggle, the fort served as a jail where freedom fighters were imprisoned before being deported to Lisbon for longer sentences. The tableau, designed by Sushant Khedekar, also showcases the Martyrs' Memorial at Azad Maidan, Panaji, which is a symbol of selfless sacrifice made by hundreds of freedom fighters for the liberation of Goa.

With the theme 'number one in sports', the tableau of Haryana participated in the Republic Day parade. Out of the seven medals won by India in Tokyo Olympics 2020, Haryana bagged four. Similarly, in Paralympics 2020, out of the 19 medals won by the country, the players of Haryana got 6.

Vic-President M Venkaiah Naidu wished the country on Republic Day. "My warm greetings to all our citizens on the happy occasion of 73rd Republic Day. The Tamil Nadu tableau that was rejected by the experts' committee of the Centre is being displayed at the Chennai Republic Day parade.
