Can I put blackout curtains in the dryer? ›

Avoid using hot water or bleach, as these can damage the coating on the curtains. Once the wash cycle is complete, remove the curtains from the washing machine and hang them up to air dry. Do not put coated blackout curtains in the dryer, as the heat can damage the coating.

Flocking/silicone finishings refer to the layer of coating used on top of the fabric to give the curtains its effect. For conventional Blackout curtains, small fibre particles are applied as a surface finishing to give the fabric its light-blocking properties. This process is known as flocking.
