The route takes us out of the ancient town of Vic, off the silty plain and up through marl-based hills. You'll find an assortment of pines and broad-leaf oaks sliding down the slopes, with scrub dominated by evergreen oaks. We'll pause at a 12th century church, wander between farms to a chapel commemorating the 1885 cholera epidemic, and climb steeply to the remains of the castle on the summit, with excellent views of the Pyrenees, Montseny, Vic, and Tavertet. On the way back we'll pass a classic smelly old Catalan farmhouse with an affectionate doggie.
Optional extension to ancient town centre, with reconstructed 2nd century Roman temple, 11th century cathedral, classic market square, 1892-3 sugar factory, famous pork products etc. Lots for Romanesque and other architectural freaks, so tell us if you're interested in anything in particular.
