Description of the walk

This walk starts in a pretty hilltop village in the hills near Barcelona, dominated by a 12th century castle (1/2/3) and with various other interesting buildings and an impressive display of Mediterranean flora (check out the Agave americana v. variegata 1/2/3). As we climb into the hills behind, with views over Catalonia's old industrial heartland, we'll visit an interesting Miocene site, with a profusion of tiny fossils preserved in well-stratified marine deposits and big natural crevices. Then up into the forest, where we'll stop briefly at a Romanesque sanctuary and a high lookout point, with views of the Collserola range, Montserrat, Sant Llorenç del Munt, Montseny etc. As we come down the other side of the valley, we'll encounter old farms, secret springs thronged with massive trees, and soft fruit orchards (mainly cherries), with good long views of the castle (1/2/3).
